Ah yes, the faking it thing. See also: You have to be a grown up and pick one and focus.

I think maybe millennials are more open to a “both sides” approach than older generations because of the apps and games they grew up with. I think, too, so many of them have entrepreneurial enterprises or “side hustles” that use both sides because they see the value in it, while older generations tend to cling to the idea of compartmentalization.

At the same time, though, I don’t necessarily think it’s been all out of a desire to do All The Things and more out of a lack of resources that doesn’t allow for specialization or departmentalization. I think, too, it can affect workplaces because people who’ve grown adept at using both sides and having, essentially, two skillsets will frequently grow bored in the kind of jobs where each person works on a part of a whole and rarely collaborates or shares.
